Where are my favorite books?

Titles are only available if the publisher of the title has an agreement with OverDrive. Check the list of audio book suppliers to see what publishers are currently available.

What is the selection policy for audio and video titles?

WPLC DIGITAL SELECTION POLICY

The Wisconsin Public Library Consortium (WPLC) is a cooperative group whose members are public libraries and library systems in Wisconsin. The WPLC contracts with the Digital Library Reserve to purchase audio books and films for library users to download. The WPLC acknowledges that most public libraries have selection policies; this policy is not intended to reflect those individual local policies but rather is designed to serve the cooperative and statewide nature of the collection. A Selection Committee representing the public libraries in the WPLC consortium chooses titles. Comments about the collection can be sent to the Project Manager.

In choosing titles in digital format, the WPLC aims for a balance between offering popular materials and those that are in line with the institutional goals of public libraries (education, entertainment, outreach, how-to and instructional categories) as well as titles to meet the needs across varying audiences. However, we are limited to those titles that are available in the digital format and must also be mindful of bandwidth constraints of the member libraries. The focus of the current collection is on educational/instructional topics, biographies and historical materials, material suitable for children, and well-reviewed classic feature films or "best-sellers."

General criteria for selecting digital video and audio include (an item need not meet all of the criteria in order to be acceptable)

  • public demand, interest or need
  • contemporary significance, popular interest or permanent value
  • attention of critics and reviewers
  • prominence, authority and/or competence of author or creator
  • timeliness of material
  • relation to existing collections
  • statement of challenging, original, or alternative point of view
  • authenticity of historical, regional or social setting

In choosing titles the Committee uses traditional print and online library review sources; MPAA ratings are taken into account when available

How can I recommend a title be added to the collection?

If you have a title that you would like to suggest be added to the Wisconsin Digital Download Center collection, please provide the information on the title to your local Wisconsin public library. The WPLC Selection Committee will review your suggestion. Please note that not all titles are available in digital format.
